I was given a 15" glass boat with a sour Johnson 115HP on it. I had a good 75HP so I thought I'd swap them and have a decent fishing boat.
The swap was good and everything appeared to be exact. Started it up and it runs good BUT I can't shut it off. You can take the key out and it will still run. Is there a slight difference in the wiring harness? Is there a wire I can add a switch to kill the motor?

What exactly is it for a 75hp??
you may have a bad ground wire on the 75hp and thats why it won't shut off

Opps so sorry. really ment a 85 HP.
The motors look exactly the same and both have the same red rubber connector with the same amount of connectoins in it ( 8 I think).

If it worked before look at the black wire with the yellow tracer on the pack(s). Most likely that wire is unhooked or broken somewhere. If its OK on the motor harness then look at the key and kill switch to make sure its still attached. At any rate thats the wire that kills the ignition.

Ok. Kills the ignition as if I can't find a problem I gould hook a ground to the yellow tracer and give a ground to kill the motor?

If you look, you will find the problem..
Die-electric compound on the red plug before installation??? Check the plug harness..make sure you didn't push the pin connector out when you plugged it in.

latest update.
Checked the black/yel wire
Measures approx 8 meg ohms when the key is turned to the run position and drops down to zero ohms when the key is in the off position. That is the same also at the packs. The red connector appears normal also. strange

Glad you found the problem. 85hp are good little motors.
