Just changed impeller / housing and have had my boat out 2X since. Get OK pee stream at start up, but almost nothing on the lake. Cylinders are a little warm, but I would not say excessive. I can put my hand on the heads, but would not want it there for more than a second or 2. I sealed my housing & "O" ring with sealer, but noticed some on my bench a few days later and it was still gooey (didn't set up). I am assuming I should drop my lower unit and use #1000 sealer / gasket maker as recommended in the manual?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Jeff

Re: Tel Tale ...'84 70 HP (Update.. Fixed!!)

My new impeller and housing that I installed was fine. I took it apart and re sealed everything anyway. Blew air up the water intake and had almost no air coming out the tel tale. Scratched my head and was almost ready to give up when I decided to stick a tooth-pic in the elbow that goes from the side of the cylinders and connects to the tel tale line. There was gunk in there. Blew air in water pickup at lower unit and had tons coming out at the elbow. Hooked up the tel tale line and had great flow out the back of the engine. Problem solved! Glad I didn't have to pay a marina for that...

My tell tale is constantly getting plugged. I installed a pressure gauge and am really happy about it. Never looking back over my shoulder anymore - even thinking of just disabling the tell tale. Pretty easy to do if you ever consider it.

Will regular silicone gasket maker work for sealing the housing and O-ring. I'm not sure what #1000 sealer is, but I have plenty of silicone gasket maker and Gel Seal. Thanks.

Cricket - Silacone is fine for windows and bathtubs but not on boat engines. Sealer 1000 should be available at any marine supply store.

I wasn't able to fine 1000 for this second time around so I used Permatex Gasket maker and sealer - the one that hardens (they have 2 kinds). I'm sure this stuff will work as some extra on my bench really set up good.

D., did an impeller go out on you once? I just was wondering what is in there that plugs these up. An impeller went out on my engine - the reason for me changing the first time.
