Looking up the model number you posted shows your engine to be of 1960 vintage. Not a lot of people are knowledgable of these 45 yr old motors. Initial settings for mixture needles are 1 to 1 1/2 turns out for the low speed and 5/8 turn out for the high speed needle. <br />Your public librairy should have tune up and repair books for outboards that might help you

Hi popbear. I have a '63 75HP 'rude. I've found the key to keeping it running smoothly is annual tuneups. Replace points, condensor, plugs, fuel filter. It's pretty easy to do if you follow a manual.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. In my experience (I am not an expert) with this motor the TRICK to getting it running is the basic tuneup. I have fixed many different types of poor / not running conditions by doing this. I have cleaned/ regapped points and plugs with mixed results. For $40 in parts and an hours work you will either fix it or eliminate half the potential problems. Good luck.

You say that it will not run on 2 an 4. I assume that you have checked for spark and found none. Is this the case? Check your ignition coils for cracks in the plastic. If you can put it on muffs or better yet in a barrel of water and crank it at night you may see the spark arcing to the block or a mount. If your coils are cracked replace them. You say that you have eliminated the points, does that mean that you replaced them or went to some kind of CDI? When you change the points make sure that you grease them them lightly on the shaft or they could stick. Make sure that you change the condenser too. Check to make sure all wires clear the flywheel when it spins and torque it down to the correct pressure. Check and make sure that your flywheel key is not sheared or sloppy.
