Still looking at changing engines on my 20ft Alaskan now wondering about a 90h/yamaha 4stroke
. How ever I am a little concerned this would be underpowered. I use the boat for touring, hunting and fishing not pulling
skiers or anything like that. anythoughts on what
sort of top end I might exspect. Does anyone out thier run this combination??

Go with a 90hp Evinrude E-Tec. On similar boats the E-Tec is much much stronger than a 90 Yamaha 4-Stroke. It is compairable to the 115 Yamaha 4-Stroke.

My main concern in repowering is fuel consumption how will the evinrude comepare with
with the four stroke on that count?

e-tec will be close (probably better) on fuel
maintence is definitly better nothing scheduled for 300 hours or three years (commerical you may want to shorten slightly) no belts valves chains etc. less moving parts to fail why not check them out at evinrude outboards.com

I believe I would take a serious look into the E-Tec as well.

Will check them out as far as I know no one has a E-tec in the Yukon yet. I was a little disappointed they arent lighter something like
336 lbs or so without the prop . The four stroke
Yamaha is only 360 or so.

Still, it's about 30lbs lighter...there are many other advantages to an E-Tec.

Is the original poster still around? Is the boat a tiller model? If so, what motor did you go with and what sort of performance/experience have you had? I too am looking to repower my 2004 20' Alaskan (tiller) and am trying to make a final decision. Am considering the following:

E-TEC 90 or 115
Yamaha F90

Leaning quite a bit toward the E-TEC right now.

I doubt the original poster is around. He isn't one of the "regulars." IMO go with the ETEC.

Thanks.... I am leaning toward the E-TEC but am now wondering about which one, the 90 or the 115?

Re: repowering 20ft Alaskan/lund

I was at the NY boat show last week and asked this exact question to one of the Evinrude reps. In my case - I am looking to repower a 1967 Starcraft Starchief cuddy that currently has a 1963 75HP 'rude. I told him I had already decided on an E-tec - just not sure if I should go with a 90 or 115. His recommendation was the 90. It will provide plenty of speed, better fuel economy, lower initial cost. I believe he gave me an honest answer, otherwise as a salesman he would have pushed the more expensive model. Good luck.

Hi everyone!

I just thought I would post an update because I always hate it when I see a thread relevant to what I am interested in that simply doesn't come to any conclusion.

I ended up going with the E-TEC 90 tiller. I have one full season in now and all I can say is WOW! I have never had a purchase deliver so fully on all it's promises.

SUPER quiet
EASY on gas
HAULS *****

I even tried rope starting it just to see if THAT claim was true and the answer is YES!

I highly recommend an ETEC.

Also, it is about 50lbs lighter than the 4stroke Yam.

Cheers all,

EH

Hey Mooner, You had a good salesman. Going from your '63 fat 75 ("OBC certified brake hp"........which means power head rated = about 64 hp prop rated) to your proposed prop rated 90 hp E-tech is going to be a pretty good upgrade in power and performance......like 50 %. If you were at least half way satisfied with what you had you will probably be thrilled with the 90.

During the last board change, a couple issues took place with user names.

From the way I heard it, the old software was case sensitive, and also detected stuff like punctuation. So, Esoxhunter, and esoxhunter were different. The new software wasn't, and the mods, and admins, had to add something, and for reasons beyond me, they those imported. It had been addressed, and was supposedly gonna get fixed, but I think most people forgot about that. If you are worried about it, PM a mod, and they should be able to fix it.
