Sorry for being such a Newby, this is the first boat I've ever owned. It seems that the only way I can start my engine is to take the cover off the motor and manualy choke it. Once thats done it works perfectly. My question is, does my motor have an electric choke thats not working? Thanks for any help from anybody.

Welcome!!

Look real close at the manual choke lever. It has 3 positions. Off, Auto and Manual On. Obviously when you choke it manually it works (closes the butterflies). When you push it to Off, it stays off. Even if the switch on the control activates the solenoid, the butterflies wont move. Make sure the lever is in the Auto position.

Let us know!

As I am standing behind the motor, the manual choke is on the Left side and it appears that it is either on or off. There appears to be a type of silinoid on the Right with a single wire to it and it appears that it moves freely, but not on its own. Should I try and move the manual choke in a middle position?

the solenoid is the choke solenoid. it works when the key is turned on and pushed in. if it won't close the butterflies then check the manual lever. also make sure it's grounded to ensure the solenoid works properly. if the manual choke lever is engaged the solenoid won't be able to work

before you replace it make sure it works or not. if it's not grounded it won't work. and a fault in the keyswitch could cause it to not work also
