Here's a tough one I hope somebody can solve. The motor is a 1998 35 Johnson 2 stroke. When I am travelling across the lake wide open, after about 10 minutes the motor will shut down, just like you turned around and turned the key off.We first checked all the fuel components and ruled out fuel. All electrical components tested out ok. We changed out the power sending unit, but the problem persists. We changed out the stator, but the problem is still happening, but now the motor ran for about25 minutes before shutting down. Sure hope someone has an idea

A start would be your emergencvy kill switch. Be sure it is working properly and nothing loose.

That and/or the key switch if it has one. My 110 does the exact same thing but not as frequently. I've replaced the ignition switch Friday but have yet to test it.

The trouble is, it will troll all day long and not stall. It only stalls when wide open. Also, after it stalls,as fast as you can turn around, put it in neutral, it starts right up???

I have had these problems with mercury's. usually the problem is the trigger opens up because of a broken wire that gets hot and opens, loseing fire, but it usually takes a little time for it to cool before working again.

No hijack here but I ran my boat today with the new keyswitch and it ran a while and died. So much for that... :(

what I would do is get it running and start moving wires around, see if you can get it to stall, sounds like its a wire loose/broken/or grounding out, wires are moving around at wot

Re: Bad trouble with my 35 hp Johnson

disconnect the stop circuit wire from the power pack. look in the manuaul for color code. Run the boat and see if that clears the problem. This will eliminate the kill/ignition switch from the motor so you wont be able to shut down with the key or kill switch. you'll have to choke it to stall it out.

The sensors you refer to under the flywheel are you triggers for the electronic ignition spark.

Are you sure that it is not overheating at higher rpms?
