I am brand new to boating and to this forum, so be patient.

I have a 1999 Evinrude 90 HP Ficht O/B. I bought it brand new in 2004 from a Dealer that was bankrupt. I have ran the motor approximately 5 hours before winterizing it last fall. This spring I started up the motor and ran it twice. On the second occassion it ran out of injection oil. I filled it up and it ran out again.

I began to notice an oil leak from the motor (rainbow in the water behind the boat when docked).

Therefore, the problem is a leak and a consumption problem.

I have taken the boat to a Marina in Ontario, Canada and they have told me that the oil injection pump needs to be replaced/rebuilt. The marina service department has the rebuild kit ($735.16) plus requires two hours labour.

I am upset as the motor was fine last fall and now has this problem, plus the fact that the motor, although old in years, is brand new in use.

Obviously, as the motor is over 5 years old there is no warranty, and I am at a loss as to what to do.

Has anyone had a similar thing happen to them?
Does anyone have any other opinions as to what is going on?
Does anyone have any other suggestions for repairs?
If it must be repaired, does anyone have suggestions for honest/good service place near Muskoka/Mactier/Parry Sound, Ontario Canada?

Thanks.

Update ... I have talked to another marina. They are saying that it could be an o ring that has to be replaced causing the leak. Regarding the fact that the motor is comsuming too much injection oil, the marina has suggested that there could be a blockage in the oil injection return hose. I will know more after this weekend when I take it to them to have a look.

Update ... I went to the marina this weekend and dropped off the boat. The fellows there appear to be really nice and honest.

At the first marina, I was told that they would look at my boat in 3-4 weeks, at this marina I was told that they would look at the motor in 3-4 hours, and they are much more service oriented.

As soon as I have a report from the guy, I will let you know. If anyone has any other suggestions, I am all ears (or eyes being this is on the internet.

N.B. Wayne tell Rick that the Aero Auction is on August 27, if he is interested :)
