Once I make my way to the fishing spot and let the motor cool down the motor is a little difficult to start. But the real problem is that the motor will only allow me to give it enough gas to putt around I guess until it gets warm again. If I give it too much gas it dies.

kWhen were carbs cleaned last? Good spark? Compression test?

Hey Ice!<br /><br />What year motor do you have....Ill make a guess and say mid eighties. <br /><br />If so do you have a warm up lever on the side of your control box.<br /><br />Pull it all the way up....hit your choke button and then turn your key.<br /><br />When it starts...let it idel for 15 or twenty seconds...if it tries to die hit the choke again <br />itll idel round 15 hundred or so...when it sounds like its good to go ...then leter have it full bore.<br /><br />Ive got an 87 40 horse...If it wasant for that warm up lever idd never got out of the dock....or my fishin hole for that matter.<br /><br />Sequence of events means alot.!<br /><br />Hang in air pardner....just like uh hair in uh bisket.

Man,<br />I am not sure what year the thing is. I've been told that it's a '77. And the control box does have a warm-up lever, now. But the choke button does not work. Therefore, i can manually flip the choke<br /><br />I'm going out tomorrow. I will try your suggestion. It makes sence.!<br /><br />Iceburg

Carbs cleaned about two months ago, which helped a lot. Wouldn't idle before.<br /><br />I have never had a compression test done on it before and I believe that the spark is good.<br /><br />What's the cheapest way to get a compression test done?<br /><br />Iceburg
