1979 85hp stops sudden at max Rpm

I have an evinrude 85HP 1979 seriel No 85995R, when driving boat at max RPM after 5 mins engine stops sudden when re starting the stater is under stress but fine again in a few mins. Would it have anyting to do with new cdi unit every since i got new cdi the engine back fires when starting from cold.

IS this because of new cdi unit would i have the two coils mix up if not how do i fix timing?

You need to buy a service manual for your motor. Its all most impossible for me to tell you how to set timeing by just typing to you.<br /><br />Its fairly easy with the manual tho.

It sounds more like the motor is trying to lock up. Thats why the starter drags and then as the motor cools off it turns over better. <br /><br />Start with a compression test. Plan on pulling the heads.
