need info on used motor

I just purchased a used 15 hp Johnson outboard motor. The model # is J15EENM, from what I've seen I think this is an electric start 1992 model but I would like a second opinion on this and some info on where to find a good service manual for this. It started up on the first pull with the rope.

Welcome to the forum!<br /><br />Yes its an electric start, as indicated by the first E in the model number.<br />Why do you ask, Is the starter missing.<br /><br />You can buy a manual for it rite here at Iboats.

The factory manual is more informative than generic manuals for your particular motor and can be found at kencook or theoutboardwizard websites. I favor the factory manual for troubleshooting and repair. The generics are fine for preventative maintenance and general info.

I'm just trying to verify the year before I order a manual-all I need is one for basic tuneups and minor repairs.

This is all I could find on your motor<br />15 HP - year 1992 - for model# - J15EEN <br />So I'm thinking you are correct in the year & as Goodoleboy stated, the "E" is for electric<br />You can't lose with a manual, they are gold!<br />As well as this forum!

Thanks for the replies! So far so good, bought a new battery and the electric start works good,motor started right up, hooked up a garden hose to the muffs and water did not come out right away but when it did it was warm-is this normal or should I plan on getting a water pump kit?

If it is used and you are in doubt... i would take apart the lower end and check the impeller.
