Re: OK-HOOKER

Iam hardly one of the pros. But if it were my motor, I would pull the plugs and see if the motor turns freely by hand, spin the flywheel by hand clockwise. If the motor turns free no tight spots or anything out of the ordinary. And if it feels ok, then I would spin it with the starter.

Iam just guessing but it should show three hundred or so on your tach. You will have to check the manual to be sure.

If it dosent get up to speed then you have found your problem....mabey!

More power to ya!

Hi Jake,

This symptom happened suddenly, right? It isn't clear from your post whether the second battery actually started your motor, or just cranked it, but I guess it just cranked it, too slow to fire up..

Assuming it just cranked it, but slower than normal, this suggests two things to me. Either there's been a breakdown in the battery/starter circuit - ie. bad connection or frayed cables somewhere, or and this seems the most likely thing to check out - the starter itself has developed a fault.

If you've got a bit of muscle, it's possible to hand crank that motor! That's a last resort.

Just a safety note. Whatever you do when turning the motor by hand with anything but a starter rope make sure the plugs are out of the motor as it may start unexpectedly due to it having a magneto ignition system. Eventhough it should not start with the ignition key off, you can't really trust that.
