I have twin batteries for twin 4 stroke outboards . I have dual battery switches so that either motor can start off of either battery. Now here's the catch. Where do I tap off for the accessories power? Right now I use the common on battery switch #1. I run motor #1 and battery #1 together and the same for #2. I switch the #1 battery switch to whichever motor is running when trolling on one engine to keep up the accessory use. I have heard that it's not good to leave the battery switches in the "both" position because you have two alternators feeding against each other with both engines running. Besides I like to keep the batteries separate in case one goes dead I still have a good one. Does anyone have a better idea or setup for this?? THANKS!!!!

I too have twins. I start both motors an ALL. When they are warmed up I switch both eninges to #1 for the trip out. For the trip back I switch both engines to #2. That way both alternators are keeping one battery topped off and the other is fully charged. I also use a trickle charger once a month when I'm not using the boat and check the state of charge with a volt meter before I leave home.
