help, gas problem on a 9.9

Hello there... I have a evinrude 9.9 1985. Yesterday, it was running fine but suddenly, it begin to slow down and after it stop. I tried to start it again. It started but stoped just after 2 seconds. The only thing to make it still run is that i have to "pump" the gas on the gas line to make it running without stop. Do you have some tips to what to check? I looked at the fuel pump and it look ok. Can you please help me? <br />Steeve

Welcome to the forum!<br /><br />Disconect fuel line that comes from fuel pump to carb. see if you get a good flow of fuel when cranking engine over.<br /><br />If not then check for restriced fuel supply line tank pick up tube and screen. Mabey cloged fuel filter. If you are sure you have free flow of fuel to fuel pump, then replace fuel pump.<br /><br />If you get good flow of fuel from pump, then clean carb real good and remove welch plugs and blow all passages clear with compressed air.<br /><br />Good luck!
