Any suggestions? I have no reverse thrust but the prop is definitely turning. Forward is working fine, and prop has just been reworked. It seems to rev very high when in revrse but I have no tach to get concrete numbers. Is this a bottom end problem or could it be in my cables? Any suggestions are welcome

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris.....take the shift cable off at the engine and shift into reverse manually at the engine. If she kicks in, problem is in the shift cable or controls.

Are the shift cables very old? When you are in neutral, the shift lever at the engine should be near vertical.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check the cables this weekend when I get back to town. You may be right, I think it goes into neutral off of vertical. I had new cables put on last year but it worked fine at the end of last season. Haven't gotten much use out of it this year. Thanks again

Chris

I disconnected the cables and shifted manually and there is still no reverse. Again, the prop spins and the engine revs to about 5000+rpm but the boat won't move. Any more suggestions! Could this be gears?

Surely you didn't mean 5000 rpm's in reverse ? I sure wouldn't rev my motor to 5000 rpm's in reverse or even a non- working reverse . With no load on motor if you keep revin' to 5000 rpm's you wont have to worry about reverse , You'll be rebuilding a power head. I'd put it in reverse with motor not running and move the prop by hand and see what it feels like . This maybe the wrong way to test but at least I'd know if it was fully engaged or not. I'd quit revin' that high without a load. JMHO
Good- Luck,
KYHunter
