I just removed my lower unit to replace water pump and found a small pin hole in the copper tube running to my engine. What(if any) is the best way to repair it?It is a 1970 70 hp evinrude.

Does the hole look like it's been drilled or is it a wear hole? A small hole in the water tube near the top is used for cooling the exhaust tube. And while we're there, did the water tube pull out of the grommet in the upper end? Don't think it's supposed to come out.

The tube didnot come out.You see I was flushing out the motor after droping the lower unit because it sucked up mud and then I noticed the leak about 6 inch up the tube.Nice round hole , very small. It is dead center.

As I posted reddog, it's just a cooling water hole to help cool the exhaust. Wouldn't worry about it..... :)

On dry stacked motors we add 2-3 small holes in the tube to cool the plastic water pump housing. You should be fine.
