won't idle

I have a 1990 johnson 120 can't keep it running at idle it just stalls. It will idle when on the garden hose.but it won't when in the water. Ihave good compression 115 to125 range . I have installed 4 new coils , I pulled carbs off and they look good . I have installed 4 new plugs. Could the fact that it has no t-stats init have anything to do with it not idleing. Anyone have any ideas

Yep!! I have a pair of 1987 110s & had the same problem until I replaced the t-stats.

An old timer gave me a tip - - he said to tilt the engines up a tad to help idling problems. It changes the angle of the float in the carb just enough to feed it a bit more fuel.
