Welcome to the forum,

Ask him if he's removed the cotter pin in the prop nut first.

Mike ;)

If the prop nut is off it should just slip off unless its kind of rusted a bit, try squirting some wd 40 or penetrating fluid where the splines & prop meet & let sit for awhile, if it wont come off then try gently tapping around the prop with a hammer & see if that will loosen it up.

Good Luck,
Mike :)

yes, he has done all that. and gently tapping? he's way past that, now. :p his friend was sure if they just took the dumb thing and put it in the water 'as if to fish', the prop would just fall off! LOL! hubby didnt want to take the risk that the prop wouldnt play the game right and NOT fall off! so here it sits in the yard...

its like there is some secret button somewhere that he needs to push but you're making it sound like he's done all that should be done. i was hoping to avoid a trip to the boat dock but sounds unavoidable now...

Have him take a block of wood, and a heavy hammer. Go around , and around the blades, don't just strke on one. This is the first time a have got to say, " Get a bigger hammer"

Just one suggestion.
Be sure to grease the splines on the prop shaft good before putting the prop back on. Then you shouldn't have to go through all this next time.

he's outside working now and kids were on the computer when he was in the house, so he's not had a chance to read this, but i guess its been 'never' since he's taken the prop off, so it is just plain stuck. i shared that someone here suggested soaking it for up to one week, so he's giving that treatment a go.

Might be he could take a gear puller and hook it on it.

you might have him spin it back and forth as he is either pulling it or having someone tap on it this might help.
