Oliver..... Spark plugs should be Champion plugs, gapped at .040.

Compression should be approximately 100+ psi and even on all cylinders. What are the individual readings?

With the spark plugs removed, the spark should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.... a real SNAP! Does it?

If the above are as they should be, either you've overlooked something within the carburetors, possibly the high speed jet which is located in the bottom center portion of the float chamber, or the timer base (spark advance) under the flywheel is sticking (retarded spark).

Check ebay for manuals. There is usually tons of them at good prices.

You can pick up a Seloc manual for your motor at a variety of places such as here at iboats, Wal-Mart, etc. for around $20. I have an '86 140 and have found it to be fine for basic stuff like carb rebuild, impeller replacement, etc.

I did get an evinrude service manual from ebay recently. Cost me about $15 plus shipping. Definitely more detailed than the Seloc, but I had to check back regularly for about 4-6 months before I found one for my particular motor.

Listen to Joe....he is definitely "the man" when it comes to Evinrude/Johnson knowledge.

Good luck.

Oh yeah....after doing everything that Joe suggests, you might want to try "bumping" the primer (ie. push in key) as you try and accelerate. If the motor picks up, you should probably look a little harder at the fuel system (ie. clean carbs again and install new carb kits, check that all hose connections are tight, do a "link and sync" on the carbs, make sure you are using fresh 87 octane gas)

Good luck.
