Hey, picked up a little fishing boat last summer and it's got a 9.9 Johnson Seahorse on it. Model number is J10ELCRA - I found this: ken cook

but there is no "A" does that stand for something important?

Also, what's the difference between all the manuals listed on this page and the manual on this page:
SeLoc

The motor runs decent but I can tell it's not 100%, so I'm just looking for a manual to follow for getting back up to speed, and possibly a few extra ponies if there are any easy tricks.

Thanks for any help,
Steve

Re: Johnson 9.9 repair manual

The "A" is a designation known only to the manufacturers, doesn't mean a thing to us common folk :D

The OEM manual is specific to your motor and year, yours probably covers the 15hp as well. The Seloc can cover multiple hp's and years and such is not as specific to any motor or year. OEM is better IMO.

Thanks guys, I did search around a bit, that's how I found those links, but didn't come across the link you posted SoLittle - looks like a good one. Thanks for the recommendation MCM.

I wrote the above suggested link, & am constantly updating it with new tidbits of info. It got so big that I now have split it other sections dealing with separate items. But there are links on the bottom to these others.

Hope it may be helpful

Thanks Machinist, that's a great link and I'll definitely get some use out of it. Let me know if you are looking for pictures or anything to add to what you have already and I'll see if I can help out.

I'm going to keep an eye out on Ebay for a 15 horse carb too...

I agree SoLittle, that link is invaluable so far as 9.9/15's go, it should be locked right up there with Read this first, not that anybody reads that or the FAQ but what the hay, its just MO

Re: Johnson 9.9 repair manual

Machinist, your manual contains the best and most well explained and worded information I have ever seen about 9.9 & 15's. You should consider publishing it so you could reap the rewards for your effort. I thank you for saving me time, money and grey hairs every time I need to deal with my old 77 9.9. Too many manuals talk in language that could only be understood by those who dont need the manual to begin with. By far the best!

Re: Johnson 9.9 repair manual

Let me add my own appreciation for your time and effort machinist. A well written article loaded with info that answers common questions we get here all the time. The guys are right. This would be one outstanding article to have in the FAQ section. Don't know if JB or any of his Moderator friends have seen it yet. I can drop him a line and point it out to him......if it's okay with you. It would be a welcome addition to the forums.
