When flushing my motor with garden hose and clamp, should I see water coming from anywhere besides the hole in the lower unit and up top. I have a Johnson 9.9 4 stroke and I noticed water coming from where the lower unit and the "swivel joint" meet.
There could be a problem. It is easier to direct you to my troubleshooting article below
http://www.wisnersinc.com/Fishing Info/Johnson_9.9_troubleshooting.htm which has a picture, than trying to describe it. But there can water coming out around the shifting rod hole in the lower unit. It may or may not be a problem, depending IF your motor is getting enough water to be cooled enough.
The Machinist,
Thanks for the info. I will be keeping an eye on the "pee-hole" and the performance of the engine. Any changes and I'll have to suck it up and have someone with more mechanical skills than me change the grommet. Your article is very informative and again, thanks for replying to my question. Mike
Hello to everyone.
I have a Johnson V4 140hp 1984 that operates very well but when shist lever is moved to forward position, during acceleration the lever moves backward until it goes to neutral position again. It happens only during aceleration. If engine is in idle position and shift forward, it works well.
Does anybody know why this is happening? Forward and reverse pinions are brand new. Hector
