well its new to me so i have not had it in the water .i started it with the ear on it .its loud.

Be sure to mix oil in gas untill oil consumption from VRO is confirmed, if VRO is still connected.

I had a 140 and it was way loud also on the muffs. Just fine in the water and a great motor (same block as your 120). Sold it at ~ 800 hours and still going strong.

I found out alot more about this motor today it a 1994 the gear oil was gray and tick . i took off the prop to check for fishing line . there was none . Not sure if it had water if it did it was very little.

Mako, if it had water you wouldn't see the water once it mixed with the oil, it would look somewhat gray and thick though.
