I have a johnson 50hp with 275 hours on a pontoon.This just stared happening,going along at 30 to 35 mph it acts normal push it up to 36-38 mph it jumps to40-50-60 on the speedometer by it's self the motor starts raceing fast & get's loud.What could be the cause.Any suggestions.<br /> Thank You

That explanatioon indicates that the hub is slipping within the propeller. It can be rehubbed by any reliable propeller repair shop.

What kind of pontoon is going 38 MPH with a 50 HP ? Are you sure your speedo is in working order. Where is the pichup placed, and when did you last change any installations within 10" from the motors lower unit, i exa speedo pickup location ? Could sound like something is making prop ventilating.

You've got the worlds fastest pontoon boat. Let us know how fast it goes when the prop hub is fixed.

Maybe you're looking at the tach (35 x 100, 40 x 100, etc)?
