Controls Compatibility

Will the standard OMC side mount controls from a 1975 50 HP OMC work with a 1987 70 HP OMC?<br /><br />I know the cables are basically the same, how about the electrical?<br /><br />I do realize that the trim/tilt switch will have to be transferred (handle swap).

from what I've seen posted on here, isn't it based on the color of plugs as far as compatibility? <br /><br />Hey did that safety lanyard work out for you?<br /><br />Mike

mikey,<br /><br />Great! Thanks. Since I'm thinking of switching engines, I sent it to my dad for his 1995 70 HP. His was about to let go. He was VERY appreciative. Thanks again! I owe you one.<br /><br />They both have the BIG RED plug under the cowl. So, I THINK they're the same. The battery connections are a no-brainer.

Shouldn't be a problem DJ. That was a very nice thing about the "red plug" OMC's....if the control had a red plug and the engine had a red plug.....plug and play......
