So i am getting ready to do my seats that were beat up, and i mean BEAT UP. Its going to be cheaper for me to do the work myself, however I need to know what the standard thickness is for the passanger seats ( the ones in front and in back of the boat )? Should i get 4inch or 6inch foam?

Can you measure the old foam? That would be your best bet. 4 inches should be fine if you go 6 thats pretty darn thick!

Hey, i wish i could measure the old foam. Unfortunatley the boat i recieved was in too bad of shape for me to do that. You think 4inches would be sufice huh.. I guess i will go with that that.

Thanks!

What type of seats are they? Back-to-Back, pedestal or ??? I've got a bunch of foam pieces shaped for back-to-back type seats that I had left over from my project. I was just thinking the other day that it was a shame to throw it away but I really don't need it for anything. It's in good shape.

Hold a ruler up on the seat and decide how high you want the cushion to be.6" sounds a little thick to me.Charlie

Check the quality of the vinyl. Its the backing that makes vinyl last. Thickness is important but unless it has a good backing you will waste your time. Check the fabric warehouses in your area. They often have entire rolls, end of rolls, or flawed vinyl for much less.

I found the cost of the vinyl was only a small part of the total cost of the project. With all the work needed it pays to go with the best you can get.

I got samples before I started. (I also found what I am pretty sure is the manufacturer of the original vinyl -- perfect match on the color).

Don't forget to also get thread that is ourdoor and UV rated.
