on my post for shore power I was talking about this fridge. I now pulled fridge out to verify that it is AC/Dc and it is. the problem is that it does not work on AC. I move the plug to another outlet and still does not work. is there any way to fix. Could it be the AC power pack. which by the way I dont see how that comes off to replace. or is there something else I need to look at????

Thanks
Cool IT

Re: AC/DC Fridge

Write down the make and model number and go to your local RV store. They should be able to order a new power supply for it. It will not be cheap, probably around $150-200, but far less than replacing the fridge.

Re: AC/DC Fridge

If it runs on 12Vdc, that indicates that the compressor and thermostat are good. If you know that you have it plugged in to a good 120 VAC outlet, yet it will not run on ac.....the problem is in the power supply. You could take it to a shop and have them look at it, it might be as simple as a bad relay, or blown diode in the power supply. Most likely it is an open primary in the power transformer ( a part that is not available). Unless this is an old fridge, it uses a switched mode power supply that runs the compressor at 24VAC regardless of the type of input power(12vdc or 120vac). The ac supply components are not a seperate unit from the dc, it gets replaced as one unit.

I dont see how it is set on the fridge. I dont see screws almost looks as if it is glued down????? is an RV store my best bet. just ask for power supply for my model????? if I wanted to take it in to a shop what shop do I look for--- Appliance shop????

Thanks
COOL IT

Or you can just forget about it, as long as it runs off 12v and you have a good charger, let shorepower keep it running through the charger on your house battery. I have 2 fridges in my boat one is AC/DC and the other is only DC, has run that way for 10 years now without any problems.

Re: AC/DC Fridge

If I leave it on DC my batteries only charge down to 3 amps -- should go down to zero!

Then you may have other problems, my fridge only pulls 4 amps/hr when running and when we are away from the boat it doesn't cycle on and off nearly as often as the door doesn't get opened so the charger has no problem keeping the batts topped off.
