Any ballpark figs on a 1972 Rude 2hp? been sitting, told him I need to see it run and idle and pump water (will need a $17 impeller anyway), Want $150. Too high? Good deal? Looking for a motor for a neighbors rowboat that can be light and easy to remove and stored away from the boat, which will be left at our boat rack. Thanks..

$150 for a complete, running motor isn't too bad. That motor in my neck of the woods would bring about $200 all summer long...
- Scott

Thats what I was kinda thinking. Great little motor thats easy to tote to the remote camp site and putt the lake. My problem is giving it to my neighbor...I got a soft spot for those little J-Rudes. Thanks guys...

Hi Scaaty,
They're not uncommon - several on eBay right now. If you really want one, you'll find one...
- Scott

I've got a '74, same outboard that was my parents since new. They say that it's never run right and I've never used it. One member of the family spend $100 having it "fixed" somewhere, then tryed it on his canoe only to find that it still wasn't right, almost pitched it overboard (highly upset) and later gave it to me. Last summer I tried to start it but it wasn't anything that I really cared to deal with so I didn't spend time but it's not getting any fuel. Perhaps I'll play with it this summer? Even if I do fix it, I don't have a use for it nor did I really want it.
So.....IF anyone here wants one, I could give it a go and see if I can fix it easily. I'm guessing that it needs carb work as it's sat for years w/o running, not a big deal.

Well the story continues. I'm looking for a small motor for my neighbor for her rowboat..light and self contained. Found this on Craigslist near me. Wants $150, hasn't used it in a few years, bought a 10hp. Day I go to look at it, he calls and tells me he can't get spark. Say I'll be there with a $100 anyway (mountain lake-nice area-take the dog for ride and swim), BS with the guy for an hour, get home, and the last thing today was put that 1972 2hp Evinrude "Mate" in the vice. Pull the plug, and can see some corrosion in the cap, and he had put some WD or something in there. I put a known good plug in the cap, my jumper wire on the plug body to ground, and seems I could just about weld with it. Put the plug from him in, and same blue arc. Squirted a little gas in there, plug in, fired first pull...maybe he didn't open the throttle, or didn't ground the plug.....who knows. But I got it for a hundred bucks, and the soft spot kicked in..I'm keeping it...gotta build an addition to my casket (room for the 1952 3hp Johnson on the otherside now. Thanks guys. Robby
