have a 40 johsnson on 150 alumicraft. Engine runs great until it engages forward. Runs good for 30 seconds, then has no power at full throttle. When disengaged. Runs like a champ. New to boat motors. Doesn't make sense. When I flush the motor out with the ears on it, and engage it, runs great. It seems like it;s only after it warms up and has a load on it it. any thoughts?

You have a fuel restriction. Are you running on a remote, 6 gal. tank? The engine need's more fuel flow under load. That's why it seem's fine in neautral, or on muff's.

did you open the vent on the gas tank? on the port side (left looking from back of boat) follow the fuel line to a black square, with a screw in the middle. this is a fuel screen. remove the screw, careful not to tear gasket check for crap blocking the flow. while off pump you bulb, you should get a good gas flow. post back the results.
