115 HP johnson

I bought a 1977 glasstron boat with a 115 hp johnson on it . they say it runs when they put a powerpack on it from another engine. Boat looks good from pics. but what is a power pack gonna cost me? I have never owned a boat but wanted one. hope a made a good purchase. I am a diesel mech by trade and dont know much about outboards. any sanlry@earthlink.net help would be appreciated<br /> Thanks Larry Choate

If the seller is not willing to replace any necessary components and arrange for a test run of the rig,I wouldn't bite on that one.Just one opinion.

well you are probably right i should know better but i only paid $300.00 for the boat,cover ,motor, trolling motor with foot controls and front skulling seat.so maybe i didnt get huurt too bad?

thats about what a pack costs .<br /> any relation to some choates in the cleburne TX area ?<br />test the compression, if its good catch up on fuel and cooling system maint, two strokes die if run hot or lean.<br /> scuffed pistons are a normal occurence in the two above cases.

Thank you for your info i want to run the boat as soon as possible but i want it to be a good experience. What do i need to do for cooling system maint? I don,t know if i am related to Choates in Texas? Choates here used (southern Illinois) to run a carnival if you can believe that!!!!

If you already own the rig and just want a powerpack, you can get an aftermarket one here, at Iboats, for around $100. with shipping. <br /><br />Be aware that powerpacks don't usually just die by themselves, they get help, mostly human, but sometimes other bad parts.<br /><br />Run your compression test, and a spark test with all plugs out before spending any money. <br /><br />The ignition on the motor requires 300 RPM to generate spark. With the plugs in, that takes a lot of battery.

I am a novice, and just bought my first ever boat. I have model numbers etc from the boat, and the details from my engine (Mod number etc) and would like to find out more about them if possible (I am not even certain what model of Renken the boat is, only that it is 16ft and 1989) More importantly, I know nothing about the Evinrude..only that is is supposed to be 88HP. I need to get an owners manual for trhe engin, but need to be sure of what it is first. Can I get this info online, or right here at iboats?. sandy<br /> if the pack is bad odds are it sat a long time as well. means most likly no one spent any money maintaining it too.<br /> so for starters I would rebuild the fuel pump and lines, dump and clean the fuel tank and rebuild the carbs.<br /> then replace the t-stats and water pump kit.<br /> but only after insuring compression was good and fixing any ign problems. also make sure the lower unit oil is clean and not contaminated before spending much cash.<br />best I remember the 77 115 used a hydro-mechanical shift setup that has a hydraulic pump for shift assist in the lowerunit and will rapidly die if water was in the oil.<br /> sometimes on a deal like yours its great other times its a pig in a poke.<br /> check everything before spending much.

I havent got the boat picked the up yet i talked to the woman i bought it from and she said it ran last week. I assume they took power pack from another engine and she said it ran. I have not talked to her Husband which she bought it for Last sept. and he never used it .he told her that it had a Hole in powerpack and needed new one? again thats for your advice and info Greatly Appreciated Cadet Larry Choate
