I have a 73 Johnson 65hp with a couple problems. 1). When you put in gear the motor seams to die out and you have to mannually pull and push the choke in and out. Then all seams to run fine. This happens almost every time I start out from idle.
2) when in full speed for a while the motor seams to loose gas and it will sputter for a sec and then run okay. One time the gas bulb went flat but the vent on the tank is fine.
Please helpppppppp if you can.
Thank You.....

Welcome to iboats. Have you checked the pick up tube in the tank? Most have a screen on the end of the tube. The bulb being flat shows a restriction somewhere, screen, connector, pluged line.

I did check the gas line and put a new hose and bulb on it and there is no restriction. I even changed the male connector. I thought it might have been the vent was plugged but it isn't. And yes the arrow is the right way.

Is there any other suggestions out there? I can't seem to figure it out.

welcome to the forum!

Look at the backside of the fuel pump...if gasoline dribbles from that hole when you pump the bulb, the diaphram's shot. Easy rebuild, get a kit from iboats.

Lets get it clear what you mean by the primer bulb goes flat. If it simply gets soft, thats normal, the bulb does not stay firm when the engine is running. If it physically gets sucked flat then there is a restriction before the bulb which is likely a clogged pickup screen in the tank. You need to remove the pickup assembly and check the tank for debris. This can occur whether or not the vent is open or plugged.

OKAY, SO FAR I REPLACED THE TANK AND IT SEEMED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF THE BULB GOING FLAT. THE MOTOR RUNS GREAT AFTER IT GETS GOING. BUT I STILL HAVE ONE PROBLEM WHEN I START FROM IDLE THE MOTOR WILL BOGG OUT AND I HAVE TO PULL THE CHOKE AND PUSH IT IN. EVERY TIME. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
