94 johnson 150 running bad smoking alot

HI to all and thanks for any help you can provide.I have two 94 150 ocean pro's.One runs fine the other sounds like its only running on a few cylinders and smokes alot.If i rev it up it clears out a bit.It almost seems like it's getting to much oil.I swapped coil packs thinking it might be ignition but runs the same.I was thinking maybe the shift switch is stuck.Do you think im on the right track?

too much smoke can mean alot of things..i would check first what the spark plugs look like any of them carbon up? VRO... a leak in the fuel line can cause foamy gas making the VRO pump more oil than gas into the cylinder..check for spark does each cylinder have a good 7/16 spark? a a weak spark can cause the plug not to fire properly. what about your plugs are they old? just some thoughts

its a 2 stroke. id rather it smoke TOO much than not at all.<br /><br />you need a manual!

I dont mind it smoking but when its blowing so much smoke that she boggs down there is a problem somewhere.I ran it from a test fuel tank and it ran the same.Plugs look oily and they are new.I swapped the coil packs from my other motor and it runs the same.I did notice today that when i hit the primer there is fuel leaking out by the primer solinoid.I may swap the vro pump assembly to see if it makes a difference.How would i know if i had week spark?Whats a 7/16 spark?

You need to buy or make up a spark tester (do a search on this board for spark tester - lots on information). Basically, testing that the spark jumps across the spark plug gap isn't enough. The spark needs to be able to jump a 7/16" gap with a real snap - blue spark.
