Re: 1965 johnson

Did you check that the head was flat before refitting?
It sounds like your head gasket is still leaking.
Pull the head again and check.
Put a sheet of glass paper on a flat surface and work the head over it in a figure 8 motion. If the head is not flat you will see the low spots as areas that have not been sanded. If you do have this problem keep going with the figure 8 sanding untill the low spots have gone.
You will need to tighten the head bolts in the right sequence and to the correct torque.
I'm sure somone will be along in a short while who can tell you those details for your engine.

Well,Here Iam again.
I checked the head to make sure it was flat used emery cloth on a peice of glass to make sure the surface was flat. I put a new head gasket on torqued it to specs. Then sat the motot on the boat.I went to start it by ther fourth pull the lower cylander was full of water Iam so lost.
Fishing season is hers and lake michigan just wsnt made for rowing, and besides its to hard to troll with ores.
This old johnson has been such a good motor.
serial # j2558934, mod # mo 11c
Thanks Brace
