I have a 1992 evenrude 60 hp. Recently on a fishing trip i was running full speed and it jest stalled and would only run at low speed. I could shift it to neutral and rev it up and take off and it would be fine, I assumed it was a carb problem. I brought it home and drained the bowls and found tiny black particles. Upon further(much further) investigation i found that the line coming in from my quick connect was breaking down on the inside. I replaces the line and filter. I put a glass see through filter on it, which was larger, and a new quick connect, the package said omc jhonson-evenrude. I also took the fuel arm out of the tank to inspect the tank, their wasn't much of anything inside of the tank. After all of this I took it to the lake to go fishing and it fired right off the bat and then died. After that it would not fire. It flooded and then i ran one of the batterys down. I checked for spark on the water after trolling for a while. I coulden't see any. After a while i looked again and still none, and all of a sudden it sparked and the stopped again???? what could be my problem, I wouldn't think i would have three bad coil packs.. can you help???

Remove your emergency kill swith lanyard and hold the button in manually. Do you have spark?

Unplug the large red cannon plug. Check for spark by jumping the solenoid. Don't try to start it, you'll have no way to shut it off.

If you have spark with the cannon plug unplugged the problem is in the kill circuit, most likely the key switch.

If you still don't have spark the problem is in the ignition system itself.

This test will tell you which direction to go.

Hey dhadley, Thanks for the idea, but i still come up short. This is driving me crazy.... Is there anything else i should try, or does it sound like a power pack. One more question, how do i test my warning horn to see if it's working properly? Thanks for the tips guys

Is there any way to check my power pack to see if it is bad. And if so how??? I'm hoping that the power pack is my problem and not the stator. Someone told me it could be a bad ignition switch, Could that be so? Thanks for the advise and keep it coming...

Jeff with a rude :(

Dhadleys test eliminated the ignition switch. Maybe you don't have enough cranking speed. Get yourself or make a spark tester and pull all the spark plugs and try her. That will letn the engine crank over easier/faster.

Re: "92 60hp evenrude with no spark"

Ok, i tried pulling the plugs out and cranking it, still no spark. This has really been eating at me. It has in the past been running full throttle and then seem to go down to idle by itself. I could stop, put it in neutral and rev it up a few times and then take off again just fine. My perseption was drugs in the carb bowels. Is that a sighn of a failing power pack? I would much rather replace a power pack opposed to a stator. Anyone got anymore ideas, or a sure way to check the power pack out? Thanks for all guys.
