I have a 1990 model johnson 88 spl and whenever the engine is running and the key is turned to off on the boat the engine keeps running and will not cut off. To get the engine to cut off the gas line has to be disconnected. Any ides of what this could be??

When did it start doing it?? <br />Could be a bad amphenol connection in the main harness plug. Could be you kill circuit wire (should be black with yellow stripe) is broken somewhere or it could be your key switch.

If you pull the lanyard off the kill switch on the control, will it die?

Had the same problem a while after new power pack was installed. To keep it brief the kill switch wire was pulled to tight and was not making the connection. That power pack failed shortly there after got one from this site with a warranty. Good Luck
