Excess water spray off Transom???

I have a 1972 Fiberform 17ft tri hull with a 1978? Mercury 1150 on the back, with power trim kit. For some reason, when I throttle the boat, if you look back at the transom you will see lots and lots of water shooting up. It is not coming in the back of the boat, but it does not look very natural, and I am thinking I may be losing some of my power. I have two transducers attached to the transom, which extend about 1/4" below the bottom of the boat. I also have a speed sensor. Could this be causing the problem.??? PLEASE HELP. thanks

in one word "yes"<br />my transd. throws water back into the boat I will be raising it this week to solve the problem. It will not read when planned out but most don't anyway so at least there's no water coming in then.

I would raise it a little higher. mine is flush with the bottom of the hull(also a tri-hull) and it is still throwing water in so I'm going to raise mine about an inch or so. just as long as it is in the water when you need to use it. i.e slower speeds.

btw the speed sensor has to be in the water at speed or it will not work(i figure you know that but just in case) also the speed pick up should not be a problem with the water spray.

Thanks.<br /><br />I'll raise up those a bit...except for the speed sensor.

Re: Excess water spray off Transom???

I to am having spray come up the transom, I just bought a bass boat 15' fiberglass with a pad, with a 100 hp evinrude and when I get up around 35 or faster the water actualy comes up on the side of the motor cowling. My transducer and spedo are on the other side though... There is nothing on that side of the transom and I can't see how the water is being sprayed up like that. Someone posted in another section that if the motot is set too low, it can cause spray?

This is true. My V4 Johnson was throwing water up at the engine cowl and it was because the motor was too low. Raised it up, problem gone.

Re: Excess water spray off Transom???

Could install a hydraulic transom jack/Jakeplate. Lift and lower on the fly, more spead, better performance, better fuel milage, and no more water spraying up the back of the transom!!
