Any Ideas on how I can put a hook/clip at various lengths on the 200 feet of rode I have?

When I'm in 12 feet - No/minor Current I only need about 20 - 30 feet of rode + the 6ft of chain. So the end of the rope is hooked to the bow eye and I'm left with 170 - 180 feet of rode in the boat.

If I tie to a cleat I'm angled into the current/waves.

How can I put clips at different intervals along the rode? :(

And just what is a "rode"? I can guess but would like your definition - not that I could help. Just want to increase my vocabulary.

not too sure what the problem is, do you think that you have to have a seperate correct length of rope for every depth?? if your boat does not have some sort of anchor well/hatch, just keep it in a plastic tub or something so it is not all over the floor.

I'm with Matt, add a bow cleat or maybe just allow your clip to slide on the rode and tie a stopper knot at the length you need.

His problem is that he doesn't want it to pull from off-center. Matt and Ralph are all over it. He should probably ADD a bow cleat as opposed to replace the bow eye as they are tough to reach on a lot of boats. ;)

Why not just run your rode thru the bow eye in a big loop and cleat off on a front cleat with the load end? What difference does it make if you just cleat off the rode directly and angle slightly into the wind? This is not enough to make any difference in my experience.

a "rode" is the combination of line and chain used to connect the boat and the anchor. "Line" is rope that has been put on a boat.

If you really want clips, tie a figure 8 on a bite and use a clip through the loop and bow eye.

This can work too, but then he has to run the end of the rode through the bow eye every time he anchors if he wants to stow it properly.

If the cleat is somewhat far aft this can increase the likelihodd of dragging an anchor though, but I agree if it is close to the bow, it is probably not an issue.

I've seen a few small boats use cam cleats for temporary (ie: not overnight or unattended) anchoring. Cheap and easy.

WOW You guys are great! Thanx for all the posts.

If I run the Anchor line through the bow eye I will need to remove it prior to loading on the trailer but that will work!

The bow cleat is the best idea. In fact I asked for one and the dealer didn't think I needed it, Wrong.

Thanx Mat, Ralph and Quietcat as well as everyone else for the posts.

I'm not looking to have a clip at different lengths just to be able to secure the Anchor line at the correct length straight out the bow.

This is the most useful boating site there is !
