I recently repainted my outboard motor and would like to replace the decals. It is a 1979 50hp Mercury. They are light blue with white writing.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Mercury Decals

I don't know of anyone who's making decals for engines for that late of model. I'd like to get a new set for my '74 4 hp...but haven't located any.

Good luck!

Walt

Re: Mercury Decals

SCOBERT, you may well be dissapointed with the decals available from merc....they usually supercede the earlier decals to the last of that type of motor they produced....so you will not get decals that match what you have now....

Re: Mercury Decals

I've had a number of special designs made by a shop who uses a computerized cutting machine. I just send in a file or logo. They use the file or scan the logo and cut it from selfaddhesive foils in any color. Even layer-on-layer to get special effects. They handle sizes up to decorating trucks and trains.

They manage even the finest details (recently made a complete instrument background with all symbols and signs for a car).

Sure you must have a shop like this nearby?

Re: Mercury Decals

Is it possible that I can still get decals for my '72 Evinrude 9.5? The motor is running so good now that I would like to reapint it and get new decals to restore it. Thanks

Brent

Re: Mercury Decals

I used a local shop. When I check the phonebook there's plenty of 'em.

This one is run by a lady but unfortunately she has no website.

Checked my Merc-dealer just to hear him laugh his but off. Obviously a NO GO.

My archive shows the 79 series with a decor band that has a white border and shades from light blue in the back into black as it runs forward. The name is in white with black outline. This background is hard or impossible to create by foil as these normally are one-color. A good paintshop might be ably to do something like it, and then the letters could come on top of that. The 78 doesn't have this softened look (thin stripes). Dealers advice is to get what you can and then forget about authensity.

The orignal stuff costs way too much so you might consider alternatives anyway.
