Ok folks, need a little help with this problem. We just purchased a used Horizon 170 Four Winns (1985 +/-) with a 90hp Mercury O/B (1991 ?). We noticed that gasoline had apparently spewed out of the tank vent and into the water behind the boat the other morning while the boat was moored. The tank was about 50% full and the boat had been sitting in the morning sun. The other item I noticed that seemed odd was that the gas line priming bulb was collapsed indicating a negative pressure in the fuel line to the engine. Seems like it should be at atmospheric pressure.

This spewing gas episode had occured at least once before as witnessed by my 6 Y/O daughter.

Is this indicative of a malfunctioning tank vent ?

Thanks !

Joe P.
Hamilton, NY

Re: Spewing gas !

Acollapsed bulb usually indicates a clogged air vent in the gas tank cap. Either that or the bulb itself is clogged not letting furl through.
