My 1986 Bayliner Capri has a swim platform with one step & the step assembly slides up into the bottom of the platform. Can I get a second step for the ladder & is that some universal part? Only name I can see on the top of the platform (white plastic type platform) is Bayliner, but that part must be made by some other company I would think.

Thanks.

Joe

Windline makes a lot of the swim ladders, Garelick makes some also. Go to your local marine center and look at their selection. You may have to replace the entire ladder with a longer one.

I have seen extentions that hang below the last step of the original ladder. I don't think this would be as good as you would have to remove it while in motion.

I had a four step ladder custom made as none of the prefabbed ones went deep enough. Us older folk ain't as limber as we once were.

Has anyone used or seen the "Add a Step" Ladder Extension by Alpha Marine? They don't list the dimensions of the extension and how it connects to the platform ladder I already have. Hate to replace the entire ladder or customize one if I don't have to ;)

What about setting up a rope ladder with wooden steps as an extra two steps to hang below the single step on the swim platform? Has anyone done this- seems simple enough, and would give that extra step or two some need to climb aboard.

Joe

The problem with a rope ladder is that when you step on it, it will tend to go forward, under the boat. Then, you'll have to balance on it, trying to keep it vertical until you can get to the step of the swim platform. Children will probably be able to do this (but they don't have to); us older people will still be unhappy.

I tried this and as said w/ rope ladder it swings ahead when you step. pain in the butt. I bought it from Boaters world, they said try it if you don't like it return it.
My one step ladder was mounted on the swim platform and imposable to reach the bolts on the in side to narrow. I couldn't find a match. So I left the old mounts there and made my own out of alum. and had it tig welded at a local fab shop.
good luck

Joe - This is not the best picture of my ladder but it should give you an idea. You can't see the bottom step as it is above the top of the picture. It was made from ss tube and works great.

I tried the rope ladder with 2x4 steps, two of them, and it worked pretty well for us. Gave us an extra bit of leverage before reaching the stainless/plastic step on the swim platform. Not elegant but it will do for now!

Solittle Thank you for the picture and info. I know what to ask for as I need a ladder into my Ranger bass rig with tabs, makes for a strange match that Ranger does not make. Thanks for sharing.
