I've got a 19' vision VIP. I've got it stripped down to pretty much just the hull. It is a bow rider. I'm wanting to set the hull up for a long term storage. Until I can get the time to get a drive/engine for it.

I'm wanting use my truck which has a lift cap of 500. It will lift a bit more maybe up to 600 pounds. I want to turn the boat upside down on its trailer. Keeps the cats out and other varmets. (don't want to shoot a hole in my boat when they are in there) So I'm just curious on what its weight might be. It looks just like a typical 19' bowrider runabout. Thanks. Even a ball park figure would work. I'm thinking about 800 pounds. If done right, I wouldn't have to pick up the full weight of the boat to do it.

I think they are 850 - 1000 WITH the interior. Take a look at some of the boat specs out there and they give a bare hull weight. I remember seeing some 16 footers that were in the 650 range, but I am not positive what was and wasn't included . . . If you are not supporting the whole thing, I'd say you're good to go. But I am a risk taking, safety freak. Figure that out. :D

Hi Mayfloat, when you say lift cap, what exactly do you mean? do you have a winch on the front bumper or what? In any case, yes if you use enough purchase, several sheaves in tandem and you could do it without the truck...

Why can't you roll it?

If you can rig a line under the hull and suspend it from, say, your truck or something else handy, then you should be able to play in the line and slowly roll the hull until it's inverted without taking its full weight. Old tyres could act as cushioning.

'Give me a lever and I will move the world.'

Re: ? on a boats weight

My truck has a boom/bucket lift.

I was hoping to slide the boat back on the trailer so the stern is hanging over the rear of the trailer. Then I was going to lift the bow straight up in the air so the boat is pointing straight up. Now with the transom on the ground, I will move the trailer around pointing in the opposite direction. Then lay the boat back down on the trailer with the bottom up. I got this boat for pretty near nothing, so if something happens I'm not out much. However I don't want to screw up my bucket truck. Think parts for boats are expensive?

Right now I can pick the bow up off the trailer just with my own strength. The stern is a bit heavier, I could pick it up, but gotta keep my back from injuries. Don't want that again!

If this won't work, I can call my buddy and get his biker friends to come over and help out. Oh boy, there goes my beer budget... :D
