water splashing in carb ?

i have a 1975 mercury 85 hp motor i was tring to get it running today it runs good at the house but when u put it in the water and put it in gear it stumbles and dies now i was looking and water from under it (the bottom plate was off just got this boat) was splashing in the carb not alot but some now will this make it run bad and stall?

what from the lake the water the motor slashes around and stuff lol and the pee hole water comes out around the hood

why interpter the water the muffler and water pump splash around its splashing up in the motor theres a plate that is missing on the bottom of motor will water splashing in the bottom carb make it stall and run bad?

If any water from any place is splashing near or heaven forbid in carbs it will surely cause un speakable problems.If you are missing any integral parts on your motor shrouds or cowlings I highly reccommend suspending water check or attempting operation until motor is completely assembled
