Hi i purchased a 2000 bayliner 1850lx it has a 4.3L mercruiser serial number ol843336. This is my first boat. I live in Phoenix Az and moved to PA in december however i didnt drain the engine of water and no i ogt water in my oil. I'v been told it could be a cracked block or a cracked exhaust manifold. Which is more likely and how do i determine which it is. If it is a cracked block is there a chevy short block i could purchase from an automotive store and use with the heads and other components from the mercruiser. Thanks inadvance for any info.

Jeff, if the water wasnt drained, its not a question of 'if' something got broken, but which parts are damaged...water in the oil pan, you need a long block. when changing the motor, you will find cracks in the outboard sides of the exhaust manifolds, and probably a split power steering cooler, too. Hope its a pretty boat, you gonna throw some money at it!

Re: 2006 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI Bravo II freeze damage

Re: 2006 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI Bravo II freeze damage

I apparently did not propely winterize my mercury mercruiser Bravo II engine and now I have a freeze plug popped and water running out of the engine on the Right side and I suspect from the noise when I first starteed the engine from the storage winter time, that I probably have more internal water circulating system problems. I must say the engine starts right up, although I shut it down right after to avoid further damages. Please help with aome input. My advanced gratitude for your assistance. Duke Silva
