I posted this question prior to the "oops" should have backed it up. I did get some replys and am most pleased with the responses. I guess I should have asked, has anyone had a problem with any Merc 4 stroke, EFI any year. My prior post was I have to have 2 gaskets replaced between the power head and lower unit. This motor is a 2003, 50hp tiller - model #50ELHPT4SEF - serial # OT671797.

David

G'Day. Dave, As far as I can tell Merc 4 strokes on some boats will develop a strange noise at certain RPMs, I appears to be a gasket in the exhust system vibrating, Merc have decided to replace the gaskets on all motors as a precaution. nothing to worry about, contact your dealer and he will sort you out.

Just want to echo Whaley's sentiments. This type of recall is fairly common, and if you think about it, a good sign. It shows that Mercury's R&D department is listening to their customers, paying attention to their dealers and going an extra step to resolve a faulty design.

Anyone familiar with some of the PWC industry's practices may know the glaring differnecs in the levels of recalls I am talking about.

This is a big expense to the manufacturer, and shows a lot of good will on their part to keep their customers happy.

Just my opinion, but I think you are better off with a company that announces a recall, then one that lets you struggle through with faulty equipment, and a lot of expense replacing items....
