why does my boat die? i've got a 2001 merc 200 outboard, carb. Several times last summer I could be driving and it die. Once after I'd parked at a sandbar for a while. I was crossing back across the river about 25 mph and it just died. Started right back up, ran fine. 2nd time I was going about 50 mph wide open, died, started right back up. 3rd time I was going about 15 and it died. What's up!!! I am beginning to not trust anything about this Mercury 200hp. Could it be water in the fuel, does it have a water seperator that needs to be changed?

Re: why does my boat die sometimes??

Dill, I have a 2001 Ficht, and the safety lanyard connects to the ignition. If the lanyard is not connected and I bump the key in with my leg, it would instantly kill engine. First time it happened it caught me off gaurd. Your merc may be nothing like this, (could be choke on carb engine) but just a thought.<br />Dave
