MY MERCURY WONT PUMP WATER

HI.<br /> Ive got a 94,40hp mercury 4cyl,the motor is not pumping water,so i took the little plastic things of on the side of the motor where its supose to pump the water in and there was little bits of black rubber laying in there witch i think might be some sort of seal,but im not real sure as do not know anything about boat motors,could someone please advise me on what the problem might be.<br /> Thank you

it's your impeller faalling apart.

Hi Belly!<br />Take a look at this picture (click) <br />The impeller is #23.<br /><br />Also check this site about impellers without water. Never run them dry.<br /> http://www.brokeboats.com/drypump.html

Hi, Thanks to Upstate and Bear for your info on my problem. By the way the motor was in the water when it happend,must just be my bad luck.<br /> Thank you again

Not bad luck, the impeller should be changed once a year to make sure it works right. They can get dry from storage and then break apart when put back in service, just think of it as yearly maintance.
