2000 mercury 9.9 four stroke flooding

Motor is hard starting, if I choke-it floods. After it sits awhile it may run rough,.. then load up and flood out again. Or it may just run fine. The choke linkage seems okay as does the throttle linkage. Anything obvious to check before I take it to a shop?

Typically flooding is caused by the carb float.<br />It could be sticking,could be dirt in the float valve.May just be generally gunked up.
