Warning Buzzer?

Help, I have a 2001 merc. XR6 150. There is a buzzer underneath the console that is driving me crazy. I't is not constant and it is not very loud, it has been doing it since last year. The boat motor is shooting out a average amount of water and it does,t run hot. I am fairly sure that the engine is fine. I'snt the warning buzzer for the motor in the remote? (gear shifter) The buzzer that is bugging me is about as big around as a quarter and it seems to be tied into the ignition switch. Any ideas? The buzzing only takes place when the motor is running and there is no pattern to it. It may do on one outing and none the next or it may do it all day, but it always comes and goes. thanks

Re: Warning Buzzer?

TRENT, THANKS FOR THE POST. aCTUALLY IT IS NEITHER. I have heard warning buzzers go off over the years and if that is what this is then it is not nearly as loud as it should be. I am very far from being a boat mechanic, but my guess is that this little buzzer that is tied under the console, only purpose is to make a beep when you turn the key on to start the motor. It sounds like there is a short in it. It is not very loud, but it is annoying. Isn't the engine warning buzzer built in the remote? I really don't know but that is what I have been told. Thanks again and any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Chris

I'm bettin' what you're hearing and looking at is your warning horn. I doubt it's built into the control.
If could be a defective horn, sensor or you may have something wrong (hight temp.,etc.).

c/6

Hooty

Nope...Not all are in the remote. Depends on your setup. Im with Hooty. Time to do some troubleshooting. First thing I would do is to go to the oil tank and unhook one of the wires (at the bullet connector) on the bottom of the oil tank. It does not matter which one. Then see if the horn stops. Then come back here for more help. This is the MOST common problem with a horn going off.
