Been looking to replace my prop and get a spare too. does anyone know if the Turning Point Hub and replacable Hustler prop housings are worth a darn.

I have a 1986 Merc 35. Currently running a 10x15 and need a little more umph out of the hole. Not too much, but thought I would get a 10-3/8 x 14 or 10-3/8 x 13.

Didn't know what the durability, etc was for these kind of prop systems.

Thanks

Hustler props are all right. Just be sure, going to a smaller pitched prop, you don't over-rev.

c/6

Hooty

Thanks for the info. That's why I would like to go to a 14 pitch. should only increase RPM's by 200 or so. Just didn't know about the design of these props.

I'm not running full RPMs now at WOT so I don't think that should be a problem.

O-k.
Keep going down in pitch until you hit that magic 6 grand.
As far as the design of the prop, ya won't know 'til ya try it. I've got a prop shop, where I trade, and they let ya try props out before buying and that makes a lot of sense to me. See if they'll let you try it before you buy it.

c/6

Hooty

OK Hooty, you have me confused now. I thought my WOT RPM's should be no more than 5500, why 6grand??

With the 15pitch prop I only get about 25mph out of my 13' whaler but the engine is not operating at full RPM.

Is it 5500 or 6000

Confused in SE Texas :)

Hummm.
What ever you're manual sez. I thought max rpm would be higher then that. I wouldn't be afraid to turn it six though.

c/6

Hooty

The WOT is stated as 5400-6000. Each inch in pitch change equals 200 rpm (rule of thumb) so going one inch down would raise your WOT by 200.

Not all prop designs performs the same, so a given pitch may result in slightly different WOTs with different designs.

I've got a Hustler prop. Got it here from iboats. It works ok, really, honest, believe me. The reason these props are so price competitive, is because they are made overseas.

The only problem I've encountered was that the hub kind of got stuck inside the housing, and I had to tap it out with a screwdriver. Maybe I had my prop nut torqued too tight?

The cupping is minimal and I lost less than 100 rpm. But I'm also loading the boat heavier now.

Thanks. sounds like I'll go with the 13pitch and gain some RPMs as I'm running lower than that. Plus, give me a little more umph so I can pull my kids in the tube - luckily they don't like to go fast, mainly just moving :D
