I recently purchased a used boat with a Mariner 9.9 serial #OC119155. What year is this motor? I was told by the service department at Bass Pro Shops that the only difference between a 9.9 and a 15 is a bigger jet and advanced timing. Can anyone confirm this on this motor. If not, what do I need to do to get more power and how much am I looking to spend. Thanks.

Re: Questions about Mariner 9.9

Are you sure it reads OC? If it reads OG it is a 1995 model:
9.9 0G112540 - 0G286099 1995

Yes. OC119155. I found that number in two places. On the serial number tag and also on a silver circurlar plate on the top cylinder. It is a 2 cylinder 2 stroke motor with manual start and hand control if that helps. The case is grey with the maroon to red to dark orange to light orange stripes. Thanks for the response.

Re: Questions about Mariner 9.9

I checked all my sources but I can't find OC... anywhere.
Judging from pictures I'd say it is from 1988-90. There was a "commercial" model later than 1990 using the same "old" colours.

Sorry, can't help. Did you check at your dealer?

Re: Questions about Mariner 9.9

Bear got it

1989
Model: 7010201PD

There is a difference between the carbs in the smaller models, and a completely seperate carb for the 15 hp. The pistons and rings between the 15hp and smaller engines are different as well as the block assembly. There may be some other minor differences, but those are significant enough to make a conversion unlikely. This also is a shared motor withthe Mercury 6hp and Mariner 8hp.

Hope that helps.
