Mercury 50HP I.D.

My outboard is a 50HP Mercury and I'm having trouble trying to find out what year it is. This is the only serial # I could locate is on the transom clamp, #7140967 (made in Canada, if it matters).<br /><br />I would really appreciate your help. <br /><br />Dan

Yes ..<br /><br />The "Made in Canada" does matter as Canadian ser no's are different to USA. (Start with 7)<br />It lines up with USA no's between 5193259 - 5531629 So It's a 1979-80 Is it a Blueband with<br />Mercury 50 written in silver ?<br /><br /> http://au.photos.yahoo.com/andrewkafp

Thanks for the info Andy. I thought my motor was a mid-80's model, but close enough. Now I can order the correct parts.<br /><br />My Merc does look a little different (decals that is)

from the one on your pictures. check the pictures out.
