2001 25 HP MERC NEED TO REPLACE WATER PUMP - HOW DO I DISCONNECT THE SHAFT LINKAGE -- HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING THE LOWER UNIT OFF

Hi daniel the short answer is get a manual see link at bottom left of page.Capitals in an email means you are shouting tis rude & DONT DO IT you naughty boy If after you get the manual & are still having problems bump this post back up & well try & help It really is easierwith amanual cos you have pictures & diagrams to help not just descriptions that can be misinterpreted.

Take the 4 bolts off were the lower unit goes into the upper. take the cowl off the top of the motor and find the shift linkage. There will be a latch that holds the end of the linkage in place. you have to flip the latch up and then pull it straight out. Once you have the bolts out of the lower end and the shift linkage free the lower unit will pull straight out.

Don't forget the nut under the anode fin thingee, just above the propeller. Be patient when trying to push the pin back in after re assembly. It can take longer than rebuilding the water pump!!
